I love taking Leon on walks, even when it’s raining. I want to teach him that it’s okay to enjoy outside if it’s not sunny out. Because, let’s be honest, #raincouver 💦.

Also, supporting local farmers, and buying their organic veggies, feels good. They just taste so fresh and delicious. Farmers markets are probably my favorite thing about summer ☀️

MOM GUILT 🙋🏻‍♀️

We’ve been doing our best to do some fun, summer activities before I return to work in the fall (more to come on that soon 🙊).

I’m having such mixed emotions about returning to work. I am so, so grateful I took this time off, and wouldn’t have changed it. But. I am SO EXCITED to see patients and practice again. I LOVE my job, and can’t wait to get back to it. I’m excited to have dedicated time a few days per week to immerse myself back in medicine. I’m excited for adult time again. To wear a real, non nursing bra. To wear a shirt that doesn’t have spit up or drool on it. I’m excited for a break.

Yep, I said it, I’m excited for time away from my baby. And I feel guilty about it. So guilty. I absolutely love being a mom. I love my little baby with all my heart. And am going to miss him so much when I’m working.

I’m saying this to remind all of you mamas that feel guilty about breaks, or working, that you’re not alone. #momguilt is so real. I knew I wanted to be a mom, and have a career, but I sure didn’t expect the intense range of emotions that comes with it! .
So to all you moms that stay home with your kids, I salut you. It’s amazing, but hard. To all those moms who return to work, I salut you too. It’s amazing, but hard. Whichever you choose, and whichever works for your lifestyle, is perfect. Choosing one, doesn’t make you a bad mom. Feeling excited about a break doesn’t make you a bad mom. In fact, I think listening to what feels right to you, whichever choice you make, makes you a better mom.

BIGGEST BREASTFEEDING SUPPORT ☝🏼

When I reflect on our breastfeeding journey so far, I can say that this man has been more helpful than any tool, pump, or supplement.
.
🤱🏻 In the early days, getting up at all hours of the night to get Leon out of his bassinet so I could stay in bed. Burping Leon so I could go back to sleep. Bringing me burp cloths when I forgot to grab one (which happens ALOT). Jumping out of bed to crawl around on the floor in the dark to find the seemingly invisible nipple shield (If you know, you know). Washing pump parts and the Haakka. Trying again, and again, and again to get Leon to take a bottle. Keeping me fed and hydrated. Being constant emotional and mental support. And much, much more.

👋🏼 We have been doing some serious recharging over here over the past few weeks. Lots of quality, phones and computers away, outside all day kind of recharging. We’ve also been spending some time connecting with family and close friends.

This time is so important, and I think significantly undervalued. It’s so easy to get wrapped up in the day to day grind and stopping to listen to what your body and mind need is paramount. For your health, relationships, AND career.

GREAT WALK LOCATION 👆🏼

The Pitt River Regional Greenway in Pitt Meadows is such a nice place for a little family walk. It’s about 1.7KM out if you start at Osprey Village (and of course get a coffee at @stompinggroundscafe ☕️). Then to get back you can either walk along the dike, or through the trail! It’s flat almost the whole way, and is stroller friendly!

If you’ve been following along, it’s been a struggle for us, and a huge source of anxiety for me. BUT. It’s teaching me patience. It’s teaching me to trust the process. It’s teaching me to celebrate the little wins. It’s reinforcing how different every little babe is. AND it’s teaching me A LOT of troubleshooting tips that I can’t wait to share with you so I can hopefully help some other mamas out there 🤞🏼.
